John Arnott MacCulloch was a theologian and historian, specialising in comparative mythology as well as religion and the occasional observation of Scottish island life and scenery (The Misty Isle of Skye). His seminal work, The Religion of the Ancient Celts, still stands up as a major contribution to the field today.
